Martyn wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo: “I have never dislocated a finger like Tim has done, I have – if you pardon the expression – had plenty of balls fly into my hand, which have subsequently popped the joint. And yes, it is as painful as it sounds.
“The one thing that David Moyes should take encouragement from, however, is the fact Tim was able to play on against Brazil after he had suffered the injury, which suggests to me that he will be fine to take on Manchester United.
“He is going to be in discomfort for a while, but I’m sure our trusted physio Mick Rathbone will be able to concoct some sort of device to protect the finger and as long as there is no chance of him suffering any further damage Tim should be good to go.”
