Moyes watched Ranni in action for Rennes in their 3-2 home defeat by Bordeaux on Wednesday night.
A Rennes insider told The Sun: “Mr Moyes was here and we understand he’s interested in Rod. We’ll see what will happen at the end of the season.”
The 27-year-old has two years left on his contract with Rennes.
