West Ham co-owner David Sullivan is keen on signing the 27-year-old as the new manager Avram Grant is keen to bring in a proven goalscorer.
The Daily Mail reports that Grant believes Yakubu can get back to his best through the World Cup this summer.
Yakubu has been struggling with a serious achilles injury and scored only six goals last season.
