The BBC have come under intense scrutiny as senior bid officials including Andy Anson and David Dein line up to criticise the timing of the documentary, which is to be screened just three days before FIFA decide on the host for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
Speaking to ontheminute.com, Samuelson inferred that whilst he could see both sides of the argument, he didn’t see how it could help, suggesting that unless there is something new to be brought to light, there was little reason for it to be shown.
“It is difficult to see how it could possibly help. It is the responsibility of the media to make interesting, intelligent and insightful programmes…I guess if I was them that is what I’d be arguing, there’s no point in publishing this half way through the cycle. I can see both sides, but it can’t help the bid.”
