Ferdinand missed the 1-0 Champions League victory over Besiktas on Tuesday due to a groin problem.
“We’ll have to wait and see [whether Ferdinand will play against City],” Ferguson told Sky Sports.
“He felt his groin in training after the game on Saturday and it wasn’t worth the risk [playing him against Besiktas].
“He couldn’t even make the bench, so we’ll just have to give him time for Sunday.”
