Ferdinand moved from Sunderland to Queens Park Rangers in a £3.5million transfer deadline-day move.
He said: “I loved every minute of my time at the club and was enjoying my football. I didn’t really want to leave at this time because I was playing – and playing OK.
“But when your club tells you a bid has come in and they want you to talk to another club, it kind of makes your mind up because it tells you that you are not in their plans.
“It came as a surprise, but I was in the last year of my contract and they said that they couldn’t offer me a new one.
“I found out about QPR’s interest the day before the transfer deadline.
“Steve Bruce asked if would I like to go and speak to them.
“I went down to London to meet the gaffer Neil Warnock and we spoke about football and football only, which impressed me.
“He sees potential in me and he believes he is the manager who can help me fulfil that potential.”
