Ferrara is currently coach for the Italian Under-21 team.
“Sampdoria president Riccardo Garrone contacted me to make an offer to Ciro Ferrara, unlike other club officials who have done the same thing behind our back,” Abete told reporters.
“I spoke with Garrone and Ferrara, who expressed an interest in coaching Sampdoria in the next years.
“We gave the green light and now we must find a new coach for the Under-21 team.”
