The Portugal international midfielder joined Genoa from Sporting Lisbon this summer.
“I would like to once again thank president Enrico Preziosi and the coach Gian Piero Gasperini who both wanted me,” the 24-year-old told the club’s official website.
“I am not the kind of player who dodges responsibility. I came to Genoa with the intention of doing well, of helping the club and continuing to grow as a professional.
“Playing in Italy for a club full of history is important. When I spoke to Eduardo, he told me about the great group of players here and the passionate fans.
“I have never had any real role models, but I was a great admirer of [Zinedine] Zidane. I will take the number 42 jersey, seeing that 24 is already assigned.”
