Francis believes its the lack of games that is the reason for Rooney’s current poor form.
Francis told Sky Sports News: “Every single player, the best in the world, all go through bad periods of matches and confidence. Wayne is no different. The thing that is different about him is that as a kid he has been so consistent as a performer and then we come to expect that he is excellent every game. He is human and that doesn’t happen.
“You have to realise that Wayne was out for months before the World Cup and that means he has no match practice.
“He got into the World Cup, obviously he had the sending off, he starts one game for Manchester United in pre-season and he is suspended again for three games.
“You can see that in his play, in his touch, in his control. Things that are the norm for Wayne are missing.”
