The Mirror reports that Hughes is keen to bring in the former Arsenal star on a season-long loan.
Hughes has reportedly been handed a £25million transfer war chest by club owner Mohamed Al Fayed.
But instead of signing new players Hughes is eyeing a number of loan deals.
Hughes could also make a loan move for Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz.
