The 24-year-old has failed to make the expected impact at Old Trafford since joining United from Molde.
Hannover have now admitted they would like to sign the striker.
Hannover general manager Jorg Schmadtke said: “That is true.
“He is fast, resolute and runs straight at goal.
“We have been after him already some time ago, unfortunately he then moved from Molde to Manchester United.”
Schmadtke added: “Both clubs, his agent and the player are in talks.”
