Reports have linked Liverpool with a £4million January bid for the England forward.
Whelan said: “Everybody knows Emile Heskey’s future is hanging in the balance ahead of the coming transfer window.
“He is out of contract at the end of the season but, so far, there have been no approaches for him. We totally respect Emile and it all depends on what he wants to do.
“I honestly feel this could be his last career move. But, obviously, we’d love to see him stay at Wigan.”
