Hoeness was also happy that his club managed to qualify for the Champions League next season.
“Given the options open to us over the last few weeks, it’s basically ended pretty well. We’ve finished second and qualified for the Champions League,” Hoeness said.
“If you’re as commanding as Wolfsburg have been in the last few weeks of the season, you deserve to win the league. Wolfsburg are worthy champions.
“Jupp Heynckes has taken four wins and a draw from his five games in charge, so I think installing him was the right decision in the circumstances. I don’t think we need be ashamed about this season. We made the Champions League quarter-finals and we’re in the Champions League next season, so it’s not as bad as some people are making out.”
