Benitez responded to the club’s triumph in the Club World Cup by insisting that the club either back him in the form of new signings or sack him. This has led to widespread reports that he will be sacked within 48 hours.
The Spaniard told Onda Cero: “they haven’t sacked me. Many people have called me after seeing the newspapers and they have asked if I have been sacked. I don’t exactly know what the situation is. The president has to take a decision on the line he wants to follow. I am not the boss of my future.”
