Butcher is looking to bring in Tade as a potential replacement for Adam Rooney, who is expected to leave the club.
The Irish striker has recently been linked with the likes of Kuban Krasnodar, Young Boys and Hibernian.
“I have spoken to Gregory Tade’s agent, but then I’ve spoken to quite a few agents about players recently,” Butcher stated.
“He is out of contract at the end of the season and I remember he did well against us during the previous campaign.
“All that’s happened just now, however, is I just talked to the agent. I’m not really convinced by the whole pre-contract issue. Although nothing is happening with Adam Rooney just now, we have to prepare and put plans in place in case something does.”
