Borussia Dortmund have expressed their opposition to Shinji Kagawa playing for Japan in July, and as releasing the players is not compulsory, Japan are facing a serious problem, with the J-League’s condition for the country playing in the tournament based on a third of the players coming from European clubs.
Hisao Shauto of the J-League said: “The rest of the 22 players would come from Europe. The understanding was the South American federation (CONMEBOL) was to negotiate with FIFA for the release of the other 14 or 15.
“We have a league to play and those were the conditions agreed. We can’t change the schedule of the J-League again.”
