The 24-year-old wants to make the right back slot in the England team his own.
He said: “Gary Neville dominated the right back slot for so long and made it his own. Now I’ve got to try to do that. It won’t be easy because the squad is so strong and there are so many good players like Wes Brown competing for places.
“I’ve matured as a person and as a player and that’s definitely helping my career. Also, all the England players are playing so well in the League that it brings confidence into the national squad.”
