Hodgson has confirmed they have turned down an approach from Newcastle United to sign the striker on loan.
“Just before the transfer window closed, Chris Hughton contacted me and asked if it was a possibility – and I said ‘no’,” said Hodgson.
“Three or four days later, someone else at Newcastle asked our board if there was a chance they could take him on loan.
“We said no – because we need him for the European games.
“There’s no truth in the stories that he’s going to Newcastle.”
