Wickham scored twice against Shrewsburg midweek and is being hailed as the new Wayne Rooney in local media.
“Connor is a great talent, there’s no doubt about that,” Keane told the Mirror.
“Perhaps we have to make sure he doesn’t get too big-headed. But I don’t think that will happen as he is a cool-headed boy.
“The only people who have been getting carried away are the local media, thankfully Connor is someone who takes everything in his stride.
“He has an excellent family background and I’m confident he will just go about his work as usual. We have to make sure we are careful with the boy.”
