The former Celtic and Barcelona star announced his international retirement last week.
“I know now that I am 100 per cent sure about my decision to stop,” said Larsson.
“I am 38 now and that’s enough.
“I will think over what I will do next. Most of all I need some time to adjust to life after football.”
“We at HIF had obviously hoped Sweden’s greatest player down the years would play on for another season,” Helsingborg’s director of sport Jesper Jansson told the club’s official website.
“But we respect Henrik’s decision and are incredibly grateful for everything he has done and proud to have been a part of his fantastic career.”
