Fowler was released from the second year of his contract with North Queensland after the club were taken over by Football Federation Australia, due to financial problems.
Sydney FC also tried to sign Fowler byt are not disappointed in missing out on the former England star.
“We’re very happy for Perth Glory and (owner) Tony Sage and happy that Robbie Fowler will be playing in the A-League,” Sydney FC chief executive Edwin Lugt said.
“But no, we’re not disappointed.
“… We had not yet made him an offer and I very well understand that if Perth made him the offer which we’re reading in the media, that he’d choose to go to Perth.
“One reason is that they made him an offer and we didn’t yet, and, two, is if we would have made him an offer it would not have been at that level.
“In our case we’ve made it very clear that our number 10 (playmaker) will be the marquee player.”
