Crouch has been reported to be close to joining Tottenham, but the club is having trouble raising the money to complete the deal.
The Daily Star says Rafael Benitez has asked to be kept informed of developments and could make a £12million bid for Crouch.
Benitez sold Crouch to Portsmouth last summer.
