Luiz had seemed set to join Chelsea a few days ago, and was due for a work permit hearing today in London, but instead will be paying for the Portuguese side. However, Benfica are unhappy that Chelsea want to pay his transfer fee in installments.
Due to Luiz’s complicated ownership, Benfica will only receive 30% of the transfer fee, making them more keen for the fee to be paid up front rather than over several years. They insist that unless Chelsea decide to pay the full amount up front, the deal will be off.
