Richards was named Barclays Footballer of the Month for August.
He said: “I’m lucky I’ve got people around me who keep me down to earth — my dad Lincoln mostly plus the lads I’ve come through the Academy ranks with and are also in City’s first-team squad.
“Everything in my life seems to be perfect at the moment and this award is another sign of just how good things are.
“I have to stop every now and then to remind myself that I was still playing for the Manchester City Academy side just two years ago.
“It’s hard to keep your feet on the ground when everyone is bigging you up so much — but honestly, I can’t walk on water like people are saying!
“But at the same time I know there will be bad times in my career and it is important to enjoy the highs.
“So naturally I’m loving every minute just now.”
