A brace from Wayne Rooney and a goal from Dimitar Berbatov secured the win for the Red Devils.
“I’m delighted,” Fergie told Sky Sports. “Fulham made us work hard and made us chase for possession.
“They have some very clever and very experienced players. They made it difficult for us.”
It was goalless after the first half and Fergie called on his team to increase the pace in the second half.
“We had to try and increase the pace a bit,” said Ferguson.
“Our start was important. Once we got the early goal in the second half we were much more confident.
He joked: “I had just found my seat. It was a good goal, well timed and a terrific opener for us.”
