He continued: “Rafa has brought in a lot of his players because of his Spanish connections. If an English manager was to come into Liverpool, that connection is gone.”
Ferguson added: “Twenty years ago, Liverpool was a closely knit and well-run club. When Peter Robinson was secretary it was a tightly run ship.

“What we are seeing today is that there are factions in every club. We’ve had our factions over the years, and those factions try to interfere with the running of the club.
“It’s unfair of them to try to do that and, in some cases, they are just young men, people who’ve been supporting the club only 10 or 15 years.
“It always seems to be younger people. You see all these supporters’ federations being quoted in modern times.”
