The 36-year-old saved Chelsea’s first three penalties in a dramatic shootout at Wembley.
United boss Fergie said: “He knew the penalties were coming and prepared himself. He is such a big presence and in a shootout he’s a very valuable player to have.
“He’s studied players like Frank Lampard taking penalties and that experience has got us the result.”
