Man Utd boss pleased with reaction from squad

United bounced back from their Champions League exit with a 4-1 win over Wolves.

Rooney, who had failed to score in his previous eight games, scored twice against Wolves.

“Sometimes strikers do score in spurts, and hopefully that’s Wayne off now on one those really good spurts of his,” Ferguson told Sky Sports.

Ferguson also heaped praise on United defender Rio Ferdinand.

“He was fantastic again,” added Ferguson. “I though he played his best game of the season on Wednesday [against Basel].

“He’s in fantastic form and he’s using his experience with the young ones around him which is really good.”

Ferguson believes it is in the history of United to react as they did on Saturday.

He added: “That’s the character of the football club, it’s in the history. But the important thing is that they’ve got a great desire.

“We probably got a little break here and there today, but we worked hard and really played some good football.”
