Manchester United have set their sights on Benfica’s young sensation, Joao Neves, according to The Sun.
The reports indicate that the Red Devils’ gaffer, Erik Ten Hag, has dispatched scouts to closely monitor the 19-year-old midfield dynamo.
This is not Ten Hag’s first venture into Portuguese talent, as he has also shown interest in Sporting Lisbon’s stalwart defender, Goncalo Inacio, in anticipation of the January transfer window.
Neves, emerging as one of the brightest stars this season, has consistently made it to the starting eleven under Roger Schmidt’s guidance at Benfica.
His performance in the recent game against Estoril marked his eighth consecutive start, solidifying his growing importance to the team.
With super-agent Jorge Mendes, also Cristiano Ronaldo’s representative, steering Neves’s career, the youngster has secured a long-term commitment with Benfica until 2028, carrying a hefty release clause of £103 million.
