The Manchester Evening News says United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to bring in a new striker in January.
Fergie has watched the 23-year-old in action against United at Old Trafford in the Champions League and will watch him again when they travel to face Wolfsburg in Germany.
United have also been linked with David Villa, Marouane Chamakh and Carlton Cole in recent weeks.
