Jim Solbakken, who work closely with United, held a meeting with Valerenga this week.
Solbakken, a close friend of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, refused to disclose why he was in Oslo.
Meanwhile TV2 says United will make a bid for the 23-year-old over the weekend.
Dutch side Groningen has confirmed their interest in Abdellaoue, but need more time before making a move for the Norwegian international.
Sports director Henk Veldmate told VG earlier this week: “Nothing will happen at the weekend. But we need a new striker and we are interested in Abdellaoue.
“We know that there are several clubs that are interested in him, but it is always like that. At hte same time, we will have to look at other alternatives.”
