Robson told the Daily Mirror: “As long as his health’s good, Sir Alex will go on for as long as he wants. He loves the job, he’s still got so much enthusiasm and relishes the challenges that are in front of him.
“He’ll want to stick around for a while longer to see just what this squad of players can achieve. He knows that winning the title is just the start for them, and he’ll want to be there to see them fulfil their potential.
“Alex has just turned this squad around after a couple of years when they didn’t really achieve anything in terms of winning major trophies, which is what’s expected at United.
“He always felt this set of players would take a couple of years to mature and become a title-winning side, and he’s been proved right.
“When you talk about who’s going to succeed him it’s always the same thing, it’s who’s flavour of the month and who’s doing a good job at the time.
“Whoever takes on the job after him has got to know what it takes to succeed at United.
“By that I mean either a former United player or a top coach who knows all about the expectations of being at a top club. It’s such a big club it needs a big person in charge.”
