The Mirror reports that United are keen for Bale to be the first major signing of new boss David Moyes’ reign.
United’s vice chairman Ed Woodward is returning early from the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia and it is believed that the move for Bale is one of the reasons.
Spurs are desperate to keep Bale at the club, but a £60million bid could persuade the club to sell.
Bale has been linked with Real Madrid in recent months.
