United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is growing increasingly frustrated at the lack of progress in their attempt to sing Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan and has now switched his attention to Goetze.
United watched the 19-year-old midfielder in action in Germany’s 3-2 win against Brazil last week.
The youngster earlier this year admitted: “Who would not dream of playing with a club like Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United?”
Goetze’s current contract with Dortmund is set to expire in the summer of 2014 and he could cost United around £20million.
