Rooney was strongly linked with a move to City during his recent contract saga, but ended up signing a new deal with United.
“Everyone is saying that I was definitely going to Manchester City,” said Rooney. “Believe me, if I had gone it wouldn’t have been in England.
“But I’ve made my point clear since I signed my contract with United that I’m committed to this club for the long-term and I want to be successful with this club.
“I spoke with the manager and David Gill and obviously they reassured me the club was moving forward. From that it took maybe two or three hours to negotiate my contract and sign it.”
