United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed the striker is suffering with a sore throat.
Rooney played no part in an open training session on Wednesday.
Ferguson has revealed that Rooney has spent most of the week in bed.
“Rooney’s out for tomorrow,” Sir Alex said.
“He has a bad throat. There were traces of it in Amsterdam last Thursday and he’s been in bed for a lot of the weekend.”
