Rooney told the Sun: “I’m looking forward to it. It’s always exciting when you get a new manager and you don’t know if he’s going to change things or what he’s going to do.
“So of course I’m interested to meet him and work under him.
“His record is brilliant at club level so I’m sure he can bring something extra to England as well. I was pleased when he was appointed, actually, because his record is the main thing.
“As an Englishman you want the best man for the job, who is going to try and help us win trophies. And, personally, I think he is the best man.”
He added: “Hopefully, we can win something for him and help him become a legend for England.
“Obviously the main thing is to win your games. Hopefully we can do that as a team and I’m sure we’ll be giving 110 per cent for the new manager.
“What I’m looking forward to most is winning trophies. A country with the talent we’ve got as footballers, we should be up there challenging for the main two trophies.”
