Berbatov has recently recovered from a injury sustained in United’s 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers earlier this month.
The former Tottenham striker is set to feature for Bulgaria against Malta on Wednesday.
Berbatov is only one goal short of former captain Hristo Bonev’s record.
“I’m thinking about it (the record), of course. I’ve scored many goals so far and I hope that with the help of my team mates I’ll do it,” Berbatov said.
