Drinkwater is currently on loan at Championship side Barnsley and has in recent season had loan spells at Huddersfield, Cardiff and Watford.
Leicester have agreed a fee with United to sign the talented midfielder.
Drinkwater is expected to discuss terms with Leicester on Thursday.
