Reports earlier on Tuesday suggested McAllister had already agreed a deal, but now it turns out no agreement was reached.
Portsmouth are still searching for a new assistant to boss Paul Hart, after Brian Kidd left the club for Manchester City in the summer.
Hart told Portsmouth paper The News: “We couldn’t agree anything. He was the man I wanted so it’s disappointing.”
