The Australian joined Middlesbrough in a £3.5million switch from Celtic in January and is keen to get Boro back into the Premier League.
“It hasn’t even entered my head that I could leave this summer,” said the Australian.
“All I am concentrating on now is the World Cup. Then I will get back here and settle in again for the start of the new season.
“Moving here and there and moving on to a new club is not something you want to keep doing.
“At the moment it’s playing for Middlesbrough that I want. I want to be successful here and push this club back up.
“I love working with the manager. The main reason I came here was to work with him and Garry Pendry, his assistant, again. He trusts me and that gives you extra confidence as a player and I enjoy it. It gives you lee-way to express yourself.”
Middlesbrough trio McDonald, Brad Jones and Rhys Williams are all hoping to make Australia’s World Cup squad.
“It would be great for the club to have three boys representing the one nation,” he said.
“I don’t know what the script will be for Rhys, there’s a bit of a worry there. But hopefully he can now rest up and find full fitness.”
