The Greek side managed a narrow 1-0 victory against the Dutch giants.
“The Olympiacos players talked a lot before and during the game to try and help each other out, and it paid off. We really wanted to win for ourselves and for the fans,” Mellberg told a post-match press conference.
“It was definitely a relief to finally get the breakthrough after 80 minutes. For some reason it was difficult to create chances today [Wednesday], for both teams, but we persevered and in the end we just had the edge.
“We’ve had a few injuries at the start of the season after playing a lot of football. We have played four qualifiers in Europe, and with the league games as well, the matches have been coming around quickly. But injuries are inevitable. We had a good overall performance today, got the win and that’s what counts.”
