The 26-year-old scored 34 goals for Heerenveen in Holland last season.
Alves said: “Middlesbrough are seriously interested. They have made this clear by bidding millions of pounds for me.
“I’d always be open to joining such a big club as them and to playing in the Premier League.
“The initial contacts and discussions with them certainly seem very promising.”
