The Mirror says Strachan sent a scout to watch him in action for French Ligue 2 side Tours last night.
Strachan’s scout Gordon McQueen run the rule over the 23-year-old, who is also wanted by several clubs in the French Ligue 1.
It is believed Tours would prefer Giroud to join Middlesbrough.
