The win ended Celtic’s 17-game unbeaten streak. Sutton scored both of Motherwell’s goals in the win.
He said: “I was delighted with my two goals but disappointed I never got a hat-trick.
“I was fairly confident I would stick the penalty away although it is never easy, especially because Celtic have a good big keeper, but it went in and hopefully I will be taking them for a while now.
“We had a few breakaways and the final pass let us down but I had the opportunity and it is not often you get the chance of a hat-trick against Celtic. I think Jamie Murphy is more upset at me for blocking his goalbound shot but the main thing is we won.
“We were disappointed with our display against St Mirren and the manager wasn’t happy either so we wanted to make sure we were better against Celtic.
“They have been on a tremendous run of form but we deserved to win. We played better than them and now have to keep that level up if we want to stay in the top six.”
