Motherwell lost 2-0 at home to Nancy in the Uefa Cup on Thursday.
He told the Scottish Sun: “If Nancy were in the SPL, they would be challenging for the title.
“We have learned from this experience. We just all need to improve as individuals and kick on with our careers.
“It’s going to be hard work to get back up the table and finish where we did last season.
“We’ve lost some good players in recent months but the boys who have come in have done a good job.
“It’s the rest of us, the ones who were here before, who need to get back and remind people what we can do.”
