Fabricio Coloccini, Mike Williamson and Steven Taylor are currently ahead of the 36-year-old in the pecking order at St James’ Park.
“Sol was a bit unfortunate not to get on the pitch against Bolton,” said Pardew in the Sunday Sun.
“I chose Steven (Taylor) over him, but there wasn’t a lot to choose between them.
“We play Stoke next and Sol’s probably got more chance playing against Stoke than any other team, because you need to have your big headers of the ball in that game.
“You can’t take too much away from yourself, but you have to be able to cope with 15 or so long throws in your box and maybe 10 set plays.
“He’s got a good chance of playing in that game.”
