Dyer wanted to move down south and Allardyce slammed his decision, agreeing with Sunderland boss Roy Keane that players are taking their careers for granted.
Allardyce said: “I had to deal with the situation as it was, and that is the way life is now.
“People always find a change in life can be very difficult at first, but you have to cope wi th i t, certainly when you have a short career in football.
“You can always go back and live where you want to live when you’ve finished playing. Without being quite as strong as Roy, I think there’s an old saying in football that if you have boots, you travel. That’s a fact.”
