Newcastle boss hoping for Santon debut against Blackburn

The 20-year-old was expected to make his return against Aston Villa at the weekend, but he damaged his right knee in training last week.

It was feared the defender could be out of action for a month, but Pardew believes the Italian could make his debut on Saturday.

The Newcastle boss told the Northern Echo: “Davide has had fluid taken from his knee. Fingers crossed that will be OK. Maybe he will be available for next weekend.

“If that doesn’t cure the problem, he could need an operation where they will tidy it up. But it is not cartilage, so that’s good.”
