Roeder told the Evening Chronicle: “Paul Huntington has surpassed all my expectations since we had to thrown him on at Blackburn Rovers a fortnight ago.
“To tell the truth, I intended being patient with him and maybe given him a game or two by the end of the season, but he has come in and let nobody down.
“And I had to ask him to play against the champions on Wednesday night at left-back, a position he has never played before in his life.
“But as he is a central defender and not an offensive player, we accept that he is not going to get forward that much and we are having to rely on Nobby Solano on the other flank to do that.”
